House: proud peacock update

I have never been as excited to open a tin of paint as I was with this.  The living room has been screaming out for a colour pop ever since the tidy up white out and this ‘proud peacock’ has been on my mind since I first started planning my new life on Pinterest.

This tin has been sat on the table for about a week while my excitement for colour overtook my commitment issues for anything slightly permanent.  I had a rough idea of where I wanted to paint, but couldn’t quite decide if it was a genius idea or not.  I managed to get out of my own head, stop overthinking it, and get the paintbrush out.

Probably should have had more of a plan.

When Liz painted her room, she did the inside bits around the window frames with the accent colour.  It looks amazing.  I thought I’d be super original and copy her.  Definitely over estimated my painting skills and went in without any tape.  Worst decision ever.  I started with the patio door surround.  The edge was nowhere near crisp and just looked a little bit pants.  The only way to fix this line was to paint further.  With tape this time.  I measured an inch out from the corner and got tape happy.  Really wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out and thought I might be heading back to the shop for more white paint.

By this point, I had pretty much zero confidence in what I was doing but thought I might as well carry on anyway.  Why not?  The other idea I’d had was to paint part of the wall behind the sofa.  I measured the length of the spirit level from the door frame, marked and taped.  Frog tape might be my new best friend.  Still unsure about the colour, I carried on.  Clearly the most sensible choice when you’re unsure.

Next was the little triangle under the stairs and the window surround.  Triangle was no problem at all, and its pretty much behind all the furniture so the pressure was off there.  The window got the tape treatment first time round so seemed to be such an easier process.

I wasn’t in instant love.  But after a little break away from the room, I really do love it now.  It’s still a work in progress and I think the room definitely needs more colour.  I also think I prefer the extra bit of border around the patio doors.  Just need to figure out what colour curtains/window dressings and how to add any more colours anywhere in the room, cant wait.

Stay tuned!

Much love!

Hannah
