Style: how to get dressed when you’re not feeling yourself.

I can’t be the only person who every now and again just wants to curl up in bed and avoid everything for a little while. Ostriching, basically. While this seems like a very tempting Saturday night plan, for me I know 95% of the time it will only make me feel worse in the long run. Sometimes you have to force yourself to get up, paint on a smile, and more often than not, the fake smile turns into a real one. I’m by no means saying this is a cure all strategy, I’m just sharing what sometimes help me lift myself up when I’m not feeling myself.

Step one

Shake it all off. Literally. Shake the days tension out of your arms and legs and start the next part of your day fresh. A shower sometimes helps here too, never underestimate the power of a good shower.

Step two

Pick out your favourite go to outfit, one that when you look in the mirror your first thought is yes. I always try to keep this step very short, no need to give your brain time to talk yourself down into self doubt or insecurity.

Step three

Warpaint. Same as with the step before, keep this as a quick job and stop before you pysch yourself out. Just as long as you feel fabulous.

Step four

Make your bed and get your coziest dressing gown ready to jump straight into when you do get home.

Step five

Go and let the good times wash over you. What’s the worst that can happen? You’ve always got your fluffy dressing gown waiting for you at home.

Or. You can completely ignore all of this and embrace not feeling yourself by being a new you for the night. Not the usual outfit, not the usual make up and if you want to go the whole hog, change your name and usual chat up lines. I’m not going to lie, this is the option I ended up going with for girls night but it worked. I went from wanting to curl up and cry at 5pm, to dancing around my handbag at 3am having the time of my life.

I hope none of you lovely people out there are feeling down, but if you do find that cloud over your head, you’ve got this and sometimes little things can help to give you a little boost.

Stay tuned!

Much love!

Hannah
