Style: Bellami review part 1

Recently I have become slightly obsessed with Mykie from Glam and Gore. For anyone who hasn’t watched any of her YouTube videos, you need to check her out. She is an amazing beauty and special effects make up artist as well as being an avid wig wearer. About October last year, Mykie launched a range of wigs with a company called Bellami. Amazing. I missed out on her limited range but it did inspire me to dip my toe into the world of fake hair. Why not?

While I was keeping an eye on the Bellami website hoping for a Glam and Gore restock, a little special offer caught my eye. Two synthetic wigs for $99. Anyone who knows me knows I really can’t resist a deal, especially when it’s on something I’ve already kind of made my mind up on buying anyway.

The whole buying process was very straight forward, nice and easy website to use, no criticism there at all. Both the wigs I ordered were on back order at the time, I didn’t think too much into this and honestly if I knew the actual wait time I might not have been so quick to order. I placed my order on the 31st October 2018. My first wig arrived on the 18th January 2019. Much longer than I would have thought, but to be fair to the company, I did order out of stock products. My second little niggle here, because they have posted the wigs in two separate parcels means I have two lots of customs charges to pay.

Moaning over. The excitement when the parcel finally did arrive was ridiculous. Very simple but cute packaging. I’m not generally a fan of things that are way over packaged so this seems perfect, a storage bag and a hair net. No frills, I like it.

My technical knowledge of wigs is virtually non existent so bare with me. From a novice eye I’m really so impressed with the quality of this piece, the hair is thick and doesn’t seem like it’s going to fall apart any time soon. I could be completely wrong here, but first impressions are very good. I did a bit of research into how to cut a lace front wig and the thought of chopping into something that cost $50 and took nearly 3 months to arrive was slightly terrifying. After far too much procrastination and dithering, it was time to take the plunge and hope for the best. All the tutorials I watched did seem pretty straight forward, cut along the hair line then pluck and use concealer where you feel like you need to until you end up with something that suits your head.

This was a nerve wracking but strangely enjoyable process. I’m not 100% sure I’ve done it perfectly, but I also don’t feel like I’ve destroyed it either. Only one way to find out.

I have never worn a hair net before, and I kind of love the dinner lady vibe more than I ever thought I would. This could be the start of a new career path.

I am in love. It has been so long since I’ve had hair that covers my ears, I have literally been dreaming about this for months. So it does feel slightly strange having extra hair over my hair, and according to Mykie it always does feel a little bit weird. I’m having slight issues with my side burns poking out if the wig hair is anywhere near being behind my ears, but that could just be because I’m due a little head shave.

Overall, I am so impressed with my experience with Bellami (waiting time aside). I think I probably need to have a little more of a play around with how to get it to sit perfectly, but so far I’m blown away with how much I’m in love with this style.

I’m excited and slightly nervous to style this new version of me for the outside world. So many potential outfits and new personalities (without being too inspired by Split).

Does anyone have any experience with wigs? Any tips or tricks to share? Can anyone think of a good name for this wig? She needs a good one.

This is quite likely the start of an expensive new hobby. I have more than enough shoes and clothes, but hair? Can a girl ever have too many hair options?

Stay tuned!

Much love!

Hannah
