The Lauren Messiah Love Your Body Challenge day four is all about identifying the areas of your body where you gain weight.
This one has been an easy day for me. Not in a self hating way at all. On day one I think I touched on the general pressure to look ‘normal’, my nanna was the main person who was and still is very critical about appearances. She’d be the first person to point out any weight gain and exactly where it was. I have a great relationship with her now (mainly from ignoring the comments – she had nightmares when I got my hair cut short, I found this so funny and that probably makes me a horrible person but there it is) but I have changed the narrative from her comments from negative to useful. I put weight on my thighs, arms, boobs then belly. Unless it’s that time of the month then I’m just generally bloated. Or if I’ve eaten a huge meal then I instantly look 6 months pregnant, which is just hilarious – especially when I can balance a cocktail on my belly.
I’ve noticed a lot when I’ve mentioned to friends something about looking fat in an outfit, instantly the reaction is stop being so negative – and sometimes I can be too negative – but sometimes it is just fact and I am a bit too chunky in areas to wear what I was thinking of. I appreciate their support, but I don’t want to look like a baked ham.
Acknowledging the facts about your body can only empower you to make the best decisions for your own style. I feel like I’m starting to sound like a preacher, but this challenge is just energising me so much.
