Style: work wardrobe

Recently I’ve been trying to put a bit more effort into my day to day work “look”.  I love nothing more than snoozing my alarm until the last possible moment on a morning, this doesn’t give a lot of time to plan an outfit to throw on before running out of the door.  With a thought to help myself out, I decided to spend some day off time putting together a few outfits to see if being prepared and organised will let me snooze and leave the house feeling good about myself.

I’ll be the first to admit, it isn’t the most inspired collection but it’s made up of outfits that are comfortable and give me a little bit of confidence.

My hope is that a little bit of organisation in the morning will give me one less thing to think about and (hopefully) lead to a stress free morning.  Let’s just see if I can stick to it, and if it works carry on trying to be an organised person.

Stay tuned!

Crafty bits: canvas weaving

When I first started packing up my life ready to move house, I had a scary reality check when I realised quite how full my craft room was and how many supplies I have been saving and never using.  This is when I decided to set myself a challenge to make as many things as possible to decorate my new house without spending a penny.  To be honest challenge for me was finishing something I’d started, I get so easily distracted.

Looking at all my supplies, I went for the biggest things first.  A big roll of netting, a 24″x20″ canvas panel, a big thing of fishing line.  All things that I’ve literally had for years and have done very little if anything with.

The obvious, time consuming outcome for me had to be a weaving to put on my new living room wall.  I love texture but have always been pretty much terrified of colour and how to use it in any project.  It took longer than it probably should have done to click on to bigger knots and looser weaves take up more space and help those inches get covered faster.

This drove me a little bit crazy at times, but I’m so happy with how it has turned out.  All I need now is a lovely new feature wall to display it on!

Stay tuned!

Style: new hair

I don’t think I have ever quite appreciated how much a good hair cut can change how you feel about yourself.  I’ve never been too afraid to try new things with my hair, it always grows back, but I’ve never loved a cut quite as much as I love this one.  I made the decision to go for the big chop mainly because it was in pretty bad condition from dying the ends.

I’m not going to lie, when Chelsea starting cutting I had a massive wave of regret and thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life so far.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

It took a few hours to get used to, but I couldn’t be happier with the results.  It’s more than just a cut, it’s given me a new level of confidence and sass.  I’m aware of how cheesy this sounds, but I’m all for anything that makes you feel good about yourself.

I’m only slightly ashamed to say, the sass that came with the cut lead me to buy a selfie light and spend a night playing around with makeup and taking photos of myself.  So vain, I know.  I have to say this did also give me a new appreciation for taking selfies.  By taking a bit of time to focus completely on myself and only looking to highlight the good bits and not focus on the bad bits, it gave my a nice little boost.  I’m definitely not converted into being a full time selfie queen, frankly I’m too lazy.  There’s nothing wrong with everything in moderation though right?

I did love experimenting with different make up and hair styles though.  Looks like my future is going to involve searching Pinterest for lots of new styles to try.

Stay tuned!

Crafty bits: pom pom canvas

I used to absolutely love making pom poms as a kid, but I always remember them being such a faff with cardboard circles.  So much cutting out.  I discovered plastic pom pom makers about a year ago and, not to be dramatic, they have changed my life.  When the makers first arrived, I’ll admit I got a little over excited and used a whole ball of wool on various sized pom poms.  All in cream of course.  I didn’t know what to do with my new stock pile of fluffy little balls so for a while they sat in a bowl on my shelf.  They came in very handy at Christmas, helping to make my tree look a little less depressing.  As soon as the season was over they were out of a job again.

The answer then became very obvious.  Sew the pom poms on a canvas, duh.

Who doesn’t love wall art that’s a few inches thick?  It definitely fits my ‘style’ of colourless but textured perfectly!

I can’t wait to find the perfect spot in my new house and then move onto covering whatever else I can get my hands on in pom poms, maybe even adding a little colour in there!

Stay tuned!
