Style: eBay haul update

This week has possibly been the worst week for short skirts and (wannabe) fancy outfits. There has been so much snow. For England anyway. Sensible people would probably have postponed the fashion show and opted for long johns and thermals, but then I’ve never claimed to be a sensible person.

Day 1

First day and I fully embraced the short, tight and high. It all made me feel pretty good, the slight downside was the top rising up and flashing a very cold sliver of flesh.

Skirt – Miss Selfridge £0.01 (£3.40 postage)

Day 2

Head to toe black and white. I loved this outfit. Velvet boots don’t work very well in the snow though. I wasn’t such a fan of the little tummy podge going on, but I’m going to choose to blame that on there being too much top tucked in.

Skirt – Miss Selfridge £0.99 (£2.90 postage)

Day 3

This day had the most snow so far and a high temperature of -3. The sky did look pretty on my half snow day though so decided to suffer for my art and try to take some photos outside. This is definitely the same skirt as day 1 just in a very slightly different pattern. What a good job I’m a new fan of the short, tight skirt.

Day 4

This wasn’t quite the outfit I’d wanted to wear. My plan was to mix patterns up and put my tailored check trousers with this jumper (this might be the softest thing I’ve ever bought). The snow had other ideas for me. I had decided to walk to work and any shoes that went with the trousers would have left my with two frozen stumps by the time I’d finished the treck. I don’t hate the result, it’s just a little bit safe and not that exciting. As soon as the snow is gone I’ll give my original outfit a chance to see the world.

Day 5

This dress came with the tags still on. Winner. It’s lovely and soft but really not that warm. I spent all day feeling a little bit fat and absolutely freezing. Not my favourite look of the week but in slightly warmer weather, and when I’ve not been eating quite so many carbs, it might be a more appropriate outfit choice.

Well done wine. I think this has been a pretty successful eBay shopping session. It felt pretty good having a little capsule wardrobe, it would have been a little bit nicer if every day didn’t require two pairs of tights. I did manage to wear a necklace every day, just forgot to do any close up photos. Idiot. I’ll do my best to work on photographing my of myself in the future.

Stay tuned!

Much love!

Style: dressed by Liz

After a good few weeks of planning work outfits, and 20 odd years of having to dress myself in general, this past week I have given up completely. What’s the use in having a housemate if you have to do everything yourself? I have given complete control over to Liz. She has had the pleasure of choosing all my clothes, shoes, accessories, hair styles and makeup flair (I got to stick with my usual base routine seeing as I’m obviously a pro at that).

Day 1

Great start to the week. Culottes I haven’t worn in about two years, white half button down top that also hasn’t been worn in about two years, knee high boots, goldy necklace and a red lip. I was a little bit apprehensive at first, pretty sure I stopped wearing the top and bottoms because they got a little bit too snug. Massive bonus, they both fit just right. The top is a bit more booby than I usually wear for work, but luckily all conversations were aimed at my face. Both these items are very welcome in the standard rotation – if I ever end up back in that cycle.

Day 2

This is an outfit that I wouldn’t have chosen for myself but I felt amazing. Pretty sure it’s from Liz’s ‘Bridget Jones’ collection. The only down side to this outfit was a slight modesty issue. I spent most of the day on my knees taking photos. It’s a good job I was in the office alone. Pretty sure I was flashing the room at quite a bit. This day also turned into a pub night (cue the bathroom photo shoot), perfect day to night look.

Day 3

I think this has been an old staple in my wardrobe rotation before. Definitely more practical for sitting on the floor for half the day.

Day 4

Liz started the day by saying she had the most daring outfit of the week planned that was just her style. Knitted jumper, knitted tights, docs and a pretty skirt. Loved this style. The skirt did feel a smidge tight though which made me feel slightly uncomfortable, if I can lay off the pizza for a bit it could be a future winner.

Night 4

What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t help my other friends celebrate Friday night? The absolute worst kind. I loved this outfit and felt amazing. Wasn’t feeling heels but these leopard pumps are my favourite go to flats. Turns out a bar isn’t the best place to get a solo outfit picture, who knew? Can’t beat a mini photo shoot with the best bouncer in town though.

Day 5

This was a complete dead day. Too much fun on a Friday doesn’t leave much time for an outfit to be planned on Saturday morning. If anyone is interested, I went with the old classic grey jumper, jeans and docs.

I loved this week. It was so nice not having to think about a thing and always feeling good in what I was wearing. It was nice having someone else’s perspective on how I should be dressing. It gave me some inspiration for how to dress myself in the future. Or I could just try and get Liz to pick out my clothes for the rest of my life.

Stay tuned!

Much love!

Style: trying not to freeze at work

I don’t know about anyone else but I am so over this weather.  It’s way too cold to do anything but curl up in front of a fire with a million blankets and a hot chocolate.  Too bad there’s work to go to.

One thing that is bumming me out even more than being constantly frozen is every boring outfit I’ve been wearing since Christmas.  My self inflicted uniform has basically been jeans and jumpers.  Fairly warm but so boring.

For the rest of the week I’m going to attempt to avoid jeans and stay warm.  I’ve come up with a few different outfits that, fingers crossed, will tick both boxes.  I have such high hopes from life.  To try and be a little bit more exciting, I am going to try to add some accessories into the mix.  I’m probably the worst person in the world at remembering to put any form of accessory on.  It could well just be (definitely is) that I’m far too lazy in the morning to think about much more than basic clothes and makeup.

Another big fingers crossed is for these outfits not looking quite so old lady when I’m wearing them.  I am still just about in my 20s, fashion isn’t everything (blah blah blah) but for me when every work day can start to feel like groundhog day sometimes a nice outfit can help break up the monotony.  From these pictures though, I could maybe do with reassessing my version of a nice outfit.  How do other people stay warm without looking like Joey wearing all of Chandlers clothes?  For the sake of all my co-workers, I hope I am warm enough because I know how grumpy I can be when I’m faced with 8 hours of coldness.

Stay tuned!

Much love!
